Innovative Breakthroughs in Diversified Panel Development: HKC's Metal Oxide Technology Achieves New Heights
2024-12-24

In the rapidly evolving technological landscape, innovation remains an indispensable core driving force in industry competition. As a leader in the display field, HKC has recently achieved a series of remarkable accomplishments in panel research and development, successfully creating and lighting up a 36.5-inch 8K 120Hz ultra-high-definition display panel, a 16-inch 1Hz ultra-low refresh rate notebook panel, a 12.3-inch FHD in-cell touchscreen automotive display panel, a 10.1-inch mini LED direct-view display, and a 2.6-inch four-color electronic shelf label (ESL). These achievements not only demonstrate HKC's profound expertise and innovative advantages in metal oxide technology but also inject new vitality and possibilities into the development of the display industry.

36.5-inch 8K MNT Panel

With the rapid advancement of display technology, people's demands for display quality have increasingly become more stringent, pushing the resolution of desktop monitors from 1080P to 2.5K, 4K, and even 5K/6K. However, the 8K MNT market remains largely uncharted. Besides cost considerations, technical challenges such as high pixel density, short pixel charging times, heavy panel loads, and high signal latency pose significant hurdles. These require technologies with high electron mobility and high uniformity across large sizes, which HKC's second-generation metal oxide technology (HMO) fully meets. In response to market demands, HKC has developed a 36.5-inch 8K MNT with a pixel density (PPI) of 241, nearly 50% higher than the PPI of a current 27-inch 4K monitor (163), further enhancing visual enjoyment and achieving ultra-realistic display effects.

Moreover, to meet the market demand for "multi-purpose devices" that cater to various scenarios like ultra-high refresh rate gaming, ultra-high-definition movie watching, and office work, HKC's 36.5-inch 8K panel pioneers the switch between 8K 120Hz and 4K 240Hz, elevating dual-mode functionality beyond the current market standard of switching between 4K and 2K, providing consumers with more options. Additionally, display parameters such as DCI-P3 98% high color gamut and 1ms quick response are standard, collectively enhancing the ultimate visual experience of HKC monitors.

16-inch 1Hz Ultra-Low Refresh Rate NB Panel

Unlike traditional notebooks (NB) that pursue high refresh rates, the current trend in AI PCs focuses on low refresh rates for energy efficiency. This is because AI demands high computational power, consuming more electricity from the CPU/GPU, while ultra-low refresh rates can significantly reduce panel power consumption, ensuring optimal power savings to support AI computational needs. Leveraging the low leakage current characteristics of metal oxides, HKC has developed a 1Hz ultra-low refresh rate panel, overcoming issues such as liquid crystal polarization, brightness decay, and screen flickering caused by long refresh intervals. The 1Hz ultra-low refresh rate panel boasts excellent display performance, with brightness decay invisible to the human eye and flickering below -60dB, meeting the intel LPDT 4.1 standard.

12.3-inch Touchscreen Automotive Panel

In the high-end LCD automotive display market, due to high resolution and larger sizes, numerous display and touch channels are typically required, necessitating either an increase in the number of ICs or an increase in the number of channels per IC, both of which significantly raise IC costs. HKC's metal oxide technology has enabled the development of Dual-gate (DRD) driving technology, reducing the number of display channels by half and thus halving the number of ICs required. This technological development validates the feasibility of triple-gate (TRD) driving technology, which can further reduce the number of ICs by two-thirds.

In addition to DRD and TRD technologies aimed at reducing display channel counts to cut costs, this 12.3-inch automotive panel innovatively verifies a new cost-reduction solution from the perspective of touch channel counts—the TP-MUX (touch channel multiplexing) technology. The combination of TRD and TP-DEMUX technologies achieves a new breakthrough in minimizing costs associated with metal oxide use.

10.1-inch Mini LED Direct-View Display

Mini LEDs are favored for high-end commercial displays and home theaters due to their high brightness, modular design for easy maintenance, ease of splicing (convenient for elevator transportation), and minimal splicing gaps. Metal oxides, with their high electron mobility, support high-precision mini LED direct-view displays with small pitches. HKC's 10.1-inch mini LED features an extremely small pitch of 0.7mm, 1000nits high brightness, DCI-P3 98% high color gamut, and a 0.3mm frame that supports "zero-gap" splicing.

2.6-inch Four-Color Electronic Shelf Label

As society becomes more conscious of low carbon and energy conservation, electronic shelf labels (ESL) are increasingly adopted by supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, etc., replacing traditional paper price tags. ESLs support online updates, are reusable, and consume no power after refresh. Previously, HKC has developed multiple a-Si ESLs to meet market demands. This newly developed four-color ESL leverages the high mobility of metal oxides, resulting in smaller pixel switches. Compared to current mainstream a-Si designs, it has smaller parasitic capacitance, further reducing power consumption. At the same time, the smaller switch (red part) corresponds to a larger effective pixel area (blue part), providing higher brightness and better display effects during use.

Metal oxide technology has been a long-term development focus for HKC, with ongoing multi-dimensional and in-depth exploration. The successfully developed panels cover various application fields and technical directions. Next, HKC will swiftly advance reliability testing for these products and deep development of application scenarios, integrating technological innovations into real-life scenarios, illuminating people's digital lives, and opening up a more fascinating future vision.
